Large Clothes Singapore

estimate: REM - Collapse Into Now

REM back in STYLE

It's one of those teams that do not have anything to prove, not need to record hits for the world to hear their next CD, it can even afford the comfort niepromowania new album by touring. That's what he did REM in connection with their latest release - Collapse Into Now. Status of the stars, which team has achieved over the years, from his debut Murmur, after a breakthrough in the commercial sense, Out of Time, to the experimental Up, was certainly a source of pride, but also a burden of responsibility. Failed album Around The Sun and the average Accelerate left a hole in a smooth and steady path that REM followed by a year. Stipe and his colleagues had a desire to recording Collapse Into Now: create a good album. I can confirm: it worked!

Collapse Into Now you can call it something like the greatest, but it can for the team this format, such term is unfair. Each of the disc is unique, each is different, and most surprising. And yet, on the Collapse Into Now hear this, what we have become accustomed REM: a unique, slightly "tune" the guitar Peter Buck (of course, is a mandolin), Michael Stipe depressing vocals, acoustic tear. Appear guests, known from earlier CDs: Patti Smith (she sang once at the New Adventures in Hi-Fi), but the new Eddie Vedder (vocals on It Happened Today, even though it is hardly heard.)

board has been created in various locations USA (Portland, New Orleans), and in Europe (Berlin - it is invited Vedder to welcoming session.) The team also invited to cooperate with Jacknife Lee, who produced Accelerate. Mike Mills, REM bassist said in an interview with DC 101, that "a very positive person, even as it has a bad day and knows what he's doing." Mills think is right, because the album is actually a large-although not the most part cheerful and happy, many times perhaps even raises Reveal, the most "optimistic" album from one of the saddest groups. Primary Team intention was to write a "short, fast and loud album, but heard the division into strong rock sound, which are usually the work of Peter Buck, delicate ballads melnacholijne while Mills said. With this fairly large rostrzałem stylistic deal had Michael Stipe, but unless you advised, because the lyrics are as always good, though distant from surrealism, which is a trademark of Stipe'a (reminiscent of the "Aluminium taste like fear" from New Adventures In Hi-Fi .)

What we have here: It starts with hard rock, just in the style of NAIHF. REM wielkotkrotnie stressed that most are very proud of that album (1996). I must admit that this is also my favorite of their board (maybe Up). Thus, Discoverer, and All The Best, or the first two pieces of Collapse Into Now that such reference is to the New Adventures (Wake Up Bomb) - mechanistic, almost spoken, aggressive vocals Stipe'a, a wall of guitars Buck and the sea drum cymbals is a reference to REM's most rock art, however, quickly comes to loosening, with Uberlin and Oh My Heart "and go to the sweet times of Reveal. The second song begins with an interesting, surprising intro the trumpets and horns, but then we have the essence of REM: namely charatkterystyczną Buck's mandolin, accordion and baritone vocals Stipe'a. Tracks are striking simplicity: Every Day Is Yours To Win and Walk It Back, which always appear on even the strongest positions of the trio (quartet until 1997.) Shortly after that, sounding like the most beautiful dream piece, we Mine Smell Like Honey, honey, but he has nothing in common, rather, because it reminds It's The End Of The World As We Know It. By the way, that old song song did not attract excessive sympathy group, which gave the members more than once an open mind, but the team seems in spite of to draw from its sounds all the time. Another firecracker (which are in proportion to the ballads dominate the proportion of about 60 to 40%) of the Alligator Aviator Animatter Autopilot, where she sang episode (otherwise excellent) Merrill Beth Nisker, better known more commonly as Peaches (another guy borrowed the team during their stay in Berlin); where great echoes Michael punk shouting "Hey Alligator've Got A Lot To Learn." Who is the mysterious alligator do not know, however, begs me to think along with the verses of "I Do not Know Which Way To Turn" Michael Stipe himself, and the failure of the team in connection with the Around the Sun (Reportedly nearly came to a solution REM), but I did not ask Stipe'a so I do not give head. Yes dobrnęliśmy to a remarkable end of the disc, a short disc (41 minutes) Me, Marlon Brando, Marlon Brando And I: Echoes of Time Out and Green marked a very clear here. Stipe, who actually powalającym a voice does not have, shows real vocal artistry here from the other side: which consists in a very personal, emotional approach to vocalizing. About this fantastic vocal Stipe'a worth writing a separate note, because it is a phenomenon. Meanwhile, at the very end of the Collapse Into Stipe'ai Now we have an old friend, Patti Smith taken out a little bit of Country Feedback, E-Bow The Letter "Blue". Real, sincere confession of what the REM singer is most important. And to date. Fantastic song.

What can I add: I was skeptical the two most recent discs to the new works of REM, but this time is a return to form. Someone might say that the team had nothing new to say, to add - right in a sense, so that their style is so distinctive and so unique, that probably makes no sense to spoil something that is good. REM no longer need to combine. They created a fantastic style, and if will stick to it, creating a good song - the fans (including myself) will be delighted.
